Sally in Denver

My children were in elementary with No Child Left Behind. My son loved geography. It was the subject that he talked about when he came home from school.

In 4th Grade, my son's teacher temporarily quit teaching all subjects other than math and English so they could prepare for the CSAP (the Colorado Standardized test). I could see my son's interest in school diminish. My frustration is that we teach to the test. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? Shouldn't the test be a reflection of what has been learned?
